Old History (who keeps track of these things, anyway?)

  • Robin ruined Tek's favorite Shadow (-3 Psyche)
  • When he first came home, Lil babied him as her "kitten" (+3 Psyche)
  • Tek was sent to follow Dante too close to the Abyss (-2 Endurance)
  • When they were kids, Tek leaked Lil's secret, but didn't mean for her to get beaten up.
  • Saw that Duckling was trying hard, so helped him learn how to take a hit.
  • After hanging out together, making up, Robin developed a horrible internal wound. Weird!

Current Thoughts

  • Rook: Is Crow really gone? Only time will tell.
  • Lil: Getting everything she has ever wanted. Some things never change.
  • Robin: He's on fire.
  • Dante: I wonder if those are ever crocodile tears.
  • Duckling: Hope they don't trip on the way up.

Growing up with Tek:

When he wasn't busy being bullied by or harassing the rest of his family, Tek was kind of a secret nerd as a kid. He wasn't a good student exactly, because he didn't like rules and didn't have the patience for things that he considered boring or pointless. But he loved to read and learn about things that he found interesting. Now, he knows all sorts of fascinating things about poisons, weird old history, mythological tales, beings and languages, magic trivia, old rumors about the houses of Chaos, sort of a random bardic knowledge of things... but doesn't know pretty much anything considered current or boring. (And yes, Lilja, he knows the proper etiquette in this situation, he's just choosing to completely ignore it.)

He was very hard to be friends with, growing up. There were moments where he would play with and get along with and have happy moments with his various siblings, but they never lasted long, especially after his very early years. Even his more maternal parent was kept at an emotional distance. The pranking, games of revenge, blatant disregard for rules, and the occasional surprisingly cruel actions against his younger siblings are much more of what defined his childhood. How much of it all was a cry for attention and how much was genuine malice is up for debate.

→ Most people chalked it up to jealousy, but it was no secret that Tek absolutely loathed Crow. Rook tended to get lumped into that as well, though the hatred was not nearly as vivid.

→ Tek griped the loudest with Lilja, resenting her attempts to mother or control (or even to comfort), refusing to listen to her, pranking her, and embarrassing her whenever he could get away with it. They did have their moments of nerd bonding, and he did (reluctantly) go to her for help sometimes, but whatever relationship they'd had mostly fell apart after Tek was sent away to the military boarding school and disappeared entirely as they grew up.

→ Robin was a problem. Being the only one in his immediate age range, and being so similar in a lot of ways that they both vehemently deny, Robin was both the closest thing he had to a friend and his greatest rival. As kids, they played together most often, but it almost always resulted in the game ending with one or both of them in tears. The jealousy and competition between them was loud and occasionally vicious, and it never really ended, even as they both grew apart and went on their separate ways. The reasons that they're both currently in some sort of feud are a mystery, but Tek never really needed much help to hold a grudge.

→ Dantaylion was an easy target for bullying, which both helped and hindered Dante in a way. There was no challenge or great reward there, Tek would usually get in a lot of trouble for it, but it made for a quick solution if he really needed to vent at something. Generally, Tek would oscillate between being bossy, ignoring Dante, or letting his guard down a little around his least intimidating siblings. However, acts of kindness and attempts to emotionally connect were met with snide dismissal and--occasionally, if pushed enough--surprising snaps of vicious, snarling rage.

→ Aside from the typical older-sibling teasing and bullying, Tek had the fewest fights with Harlequin, especially as he got a little older. He wouldn't ever stick up for them publicly if it came down to it, but he would do things in his own small way to help them out, especially if it involved surviving or getting back at anyone who wronged them. Out of all the siblings, him growing distant over the years was the least dramatic with his little Duckling, if only because he was already close to grown by the time that they came along... also he may have checked in on them once or twice after he frolicked off to go live in Shadow.
