Rook, Lilja, Harlequin

Scene 1: (Li)

Meeting w/Snorri, who has been concerned about her well-being. Li makes small talk and then asks about records of the old gods and how they were bound, etc.. Snorri gives a gentle warning “you are rushing back into scandalous topics very quickly…” but offers to put her in touch with “The Forbidden Archives” but doesn’t know if anything useful could be found.

Li: not to leave this room but the bindings might not be as secure as thought
Snorri: “Well, that is a horrible thought.”

High Priest is in favor of being friendly with Amber now with the purpose of subjugating them later, there is some dissent among priesthood. Mostly opposed by the Inquisition.

Scene 2: (Rook & Harlequin)

Rook is in the hallway, trailed by the steward, who is hammering them with questions and demands. They hear a strange shuffling around a corner and then the sound of twisting metal. Very tall 11-12 feet tall? Five legs, chewing on a suit of armor. They pull out Harlequin’s trump and say “Excuse me? Person?” The creature makes a high hooting noise and raises legs defensively.

Rook: “you maybe should see this”
Harlequin, walking casually through the trump, “WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT NOTIFICATION PROCEDURES IN THIS HOUSE”

Rook: “I was trying to determine if it is a sapient creature”
Also Rook: “Do you have a name?”

It starts backing away. Rook tries to talk to it. Harlequin starts a spell to try to create a rudimentary link. Li brings up the Logrus as a precaution. “Oh, buddy, you’re not from around here, are you?”

Harlequin manages to get a connection, summons some food for it, keeps sending good vibes. Rook has a bad feeling about this and trumps Yannick. Yannick is hefting crossbows. Rook’s feelings are confirmed.

Harlequin asks if Rook can “kind of smoosh it back where it belongs” Rook is skeptical but tries something that feels really awful. Harlequin posts guards at either end of the hallway.

Rook gets a trump call while working on this thing. Yannick is perturbed. There is a discussion on sapience and semantics. Rook dumps this off on Harlequin.

Harlequin, to Yannick: “Hello? Who is it? Oh! Hello! How are you? The guards won’t let you through?... How awful! Where are you? I’ll be right there!” They aren’t.

Rook gets a feeling and jams it back through.

Harlequin comes up on the guard post “What’s all this then?” [talking quickly over poor guard who was told not to let them through] They walk back.

Yannick, frustrated: ” Where did it go?”
Rook: “I sent it back”
Yannick: Now I will have to summon another one
Rook: NO!
Yannick: Fine I’ll go to Daggerways
Rook; NO
Also Rook: Wait take Quin
Harlequin: WTF???

Delicate negotiations begin. No summoning until the doctor says it’s ok and then we’ll all go hunting! Yannick, slightly appeased, but grumpy, huffs off.

Scene 3: (Harlequin, Rook)

Harlequin explores another of the trumps they found hidden in Greer’s stuff, green, featureless desert, bright, yellow sun.

Someone calls out, Harlequin calls back

Person-ish, looks masculine, in shadow clothing, stumbles closer

Person: “I thought I would be trapped here forever. Wait, are you trapped here?”
Harlequin: “I don’t know yet.” Where is here?
Person: I don’t know. There was a magical web type structure and I tried assaying it.

Introductions! Jerome and… Harry?

Jerome is from New Brookstein – post-industrial. Weird anecdote about how he’s lived longer than most people lived. Series of books seems to describe people like himself. Got together with likewise people. Helped rescue guy being held prisoner. Had some ability to travel through reflections.

Prisoner was named Abel – old man with no teeth, but as he ate food he got better.

Harlequin trumps Rook. They get Jerome settled. Rook decides to find out more about Jerome immediately.

Scene 4: (Li)

Forbidden Archives, specifically related to inquiry.

Spikards – mostly examination of them later. There is some sort of entity tasked with binding. Bindings can be moved, maybe? Death of a wielder. Harder if tied to Logrus inititation.

Gets some more information about gods, but not much around. Finds some interesting info about Logrus, which I missed because I wasn’t paying attention.

Scene 5: (Li)

Li checks in with Miriam. For very specific and important reasons, Miriam favors Nef. Went to some shows and art exhibitions, etc. Went to high tea and coffee shops with Maanai.

Miriam seems to be a little reserved. Li talks to her farther and convinces her that it’s ok to take her time and get to know people better and make the decision.

Li decides to introduce the obelisk to Jeffrey.

Scene 6: (Rook)
(This is where I lost the rest of my notes!)

Mostly, time is taken up by Rook and then Rook & Li trying to help Jerome get home. He can use something like a visible matrix, stepping to nodes that are destinations that he can’t determine in advance and he needs to wait to “recharge” sometimes. Rook gets him closer and gives him a Trump. Jerome has trumps for Rook and Harlequin, but might not be able to use them, as his shadows are all far away and he doesn’t seem very strong with them.
